Dredge Shed
The Dredge Shed was built in the 1930s by the Dominion Government’s Dredge and Pile Driving Operations. A small vessel with a barge loaded with a dredge and pile drive were kept docked at the Shed. They were used to dredge shoals and sandbars in Dog Lake (now called Skaha Lake) and Okanagan River (now the River Channel), and drive piles along the banks of Okanagan River. The pile driver and dredge also maintained the Government Docks and dredged the boat landings to accommodate the vessels landing at Penticton. By dredging the shore-line of the lakes and pile-driving the banks of Okanagan River the water ways were kept navigable.
Today the Dredge Shed is used as a workshop and storage space for restoration work on the S. S. Sicamous, S. S. Naramata, CN Tug #6, and S. S. Okanagan Stern Salon.
